Meme of The Day

Today’s Vote Comes With a 7 P.M. Deadline

It’s Election Day. If you have not voted, head to your assigned precinct between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Bring current, valid identification with your name, photo and signature. The county allows a combination of approved IDs if one card does not include both a photo and signature. Check your polling place before leaving, even if you voted at a nearby early-voting site in the past. You can also pull up your customized sample ballot and make your choices ahead of time. That small step can make the visit easier.
Still have a mail ballot? The Supervisor of Elections must receive it by 7 p.m. today. Election Day return locations include Elections Headquarters at 2700 NW 87th Avenue and the Stephen P. Clark Center branch office at 111 NW 1st Street, lobby. You cannot drop a mail ballot at your Election Day precinct. Read the county’s return instructions.
$75,000 From Amazon Will Help Aviation Students

More support is headed to students who want a career in the skies. Amazon’s $75,000 investment in Miami Dade College’s Eig-Watson School of Aviation will help fund scholarships for future pilots, air traffic controllers, aviation technicians and other aviation professionals. In an October 30 report, the South Dade News Leader also highlighted a local drone-training milestone: 12 students completed MDC’s first Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Dual Enrollment Cohort. The group included students from Homestead Senior High and South Dade Senior High. Families interested in the next round should ask MDC about current enrollment and scholarship requirements.
Free Health Screenings Come to Naranja Wednesday

Here’s a useful stop for tomorrow morning. The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County will offer free health screenings and health education resources at Naranja Branch Library on Wednesday, November 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program is for adults 19 and older. The library is at 14850 SW 280th Street. The listing does not name the individual tests, so call 305-242-2290 to ask what will be available and whether you need to bring anything. Share this one with a neighbor who could use it.
Naranja Kids Can Make Art With a Working Artist

If your child’s favorite school supply is the paintbrush, take a look at ProjectArt Miami. Wednesday’s Naranja Branch Library sessions are scheduled for ages 4-7 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and ages 8-12 from 5 to 6 p.m. Professional emerging artists teach the weekly classes, materials are provided, and the program leads to a year-end student exhibition. Registration is required, so check for an available place before showing up. Call the branch at 305-242-2290 with questions.
Wednesday’s Farm Deal Includes a Child Ticket

The Berry Farm
Planning a midweek outing? The Berry Farm is advertising Mommy & Me Wednesdays: buy one adult admission and get one child admission free. Its regular Monday-through-Thursday hours are 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and parking is free. Find the farm at 13720 SW 216th Street in the Redland. Check the offer and ticket terms for your visit before buying, especially if you are bringing more than one child. For families who can go on a Wednesday, it is worth comparing with the regular ticket price.
Save the Date for a Free Veterans Day Concert

A free concert is coming to downtown Homestead on Wednesday, November 11. The South Florida Youth Symphony will open its 62nd season with a Veterans Day/America 250 Salute at 5 p.m. at Seminole Theatre, 18 N. Krome Avenue. The concert is sponsored by the City of Homestead with support from the Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade. It gives families another way to mark Veterans Day close to home. For concert information, call 305-238-2729 or email [email protected]. Add it to the calendar now and check admission arrangements before the day arrives.
