Meme of The Day

Parents: There’s No School Tuesday

Before you pack tomorrow’s lunch, check the calendar. Tuesday, November 3 is a teacher planning day for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, with no students in school. Teachers have a districtwide professional learning day. For families in Homestead and the greater South Dade community, that means planning childcare or a day at home while also fitting in Election Day errands. Charter and private school families should check their own school’s schedule. One more date to save: Wednesday, November 11 is the district’s Veterans Day holiday for students and employees.

Voting Tomorrow? Check Your Precinct Tonight

Early voting ended Sunday. If you still need to vote in Tuesday’s General Election, you must use your assigned Election Day precinct. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Bring current, valid identification with your name, photo and signature; the county allows a combination of approved IDs if needed. Review your customized sample ballot before you go so the races and questions look familiar. Your early-voting stop may be different from your Tuesday polling place, so take a minute to check the address tonight.

Still holding a mail ballot? It must reach the Supervisor of Elections by 7 p.m. Tuesday. A postmark does not meet the deadline. The county lists Election Day return locations at Elections Headquarters and the Stephen P. Clark Center branch office. Mail ballots cannot be dropped off at an Election Day precinct. Check official ballot-return instructions.

Championship Week Has Arrived in Homestead

Homestead-Miami Speedway’s NASCAR Championship Weekend runs November 6-8. The Truck Series championship starts Friday at 7:30 p.m., followed by the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series championship Saturday at 5 p.m. The Cup Series championship is Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets, camping and hospitality options are listed on the speedway’s website. Going to a race? Sort out your tickets and arrival plan before the weekend. Living or working nearby? Allow extra travel time around the track on race days.

Seminole Theatre’s Season Goes on Sale Today

The wait for the new Seminole Showcase Series is over. The theater says tickets go on sale Monday, November 2, so today is the day to browse the season brochure and choose your downtown nights out. The venue is at 18 N. Krome Avenue in Homestead. Check the ticket link for availability; the theater has not posted an opening time for sales. Questions about seats or subscriptions? Call 786-650-2073.

Try a Dance Class Without Committing to All Five

Want something on the calendar besides work and errands? Seminole Theatre starts five-week salsa and heels programs Tuesday, November 3, with line dancing beginning Wednesday, November 4. The listings put each class at 7 p.m. A single class costs $20, or you can buy a five-class package for $80. Beginners are welcome. Salsa and heels are separate programs listed for the same evening, so choose the class you want when booking. The theater also lists an after-class bar happy hour if you want to stay and meet people.

Friday’s Free Plan: Karaoke at Losner Park

You have a few days to choose your song. Losner Park’s free karaoke night is listed for Friday, November 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. at 104 N. Krome Avenue. Bring a chair and make an evening of it, whether you want the microphone or a seat in the audience. On Saturday, November 7, the park also has a free veterans event listed from 6 to 10 p.m. Both are downtown options for a weekend that will already be busy with racing. Check the event pages for updates before leaving home.
