South Dade Has Two Final Days to Vote Early

This weekend is the last chance to vote early before Election Day. Miami-Dade’s early-voting period ends Sunday, November 1, with sites open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. South Dade options include the Homestead Community Center and the Naranja Branch Library. Any registered Miami-Dade voter can use any county early-voting site, so choose the stop that fits your Saturday or Sunday plans. Secure vote-by-mail drop boxes are available at early-voting sites during voting hours. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A mailed ballot must reach the Elections Department by 7 p.m. Tuesday, so a secure drop box or in-person plan may be the safer late option. Check your sample ballot and pick a time now, before the weekend fills up.

Florida City Is Hosting Free Cancer Screenings November 9

A free screening day in Florida City can help residents check several health risks in one stop. The November 9 clinic will offer cervical self-sampling HPV tests, colorectal FIT kits, prostate PSA tests, and hepatitis C screening. Staff will also check body mass index, blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Eugene D. Berry Youth Activity Center gym. That mix is useful for people who have delayed routine care or want numbers to discuss with a regular doctor. The city announcement does not spell out age, insurance, or registration requirements. Call or use the city notice before going so you know whether to bring identification, fast, or reserve a place. Put it on the calendar now and share it with a neighbor who could use a no-cost check-in.

📅 Date: Monday, November 9, 2026
⏰ Time: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
📍 Location: Eugene D. Berry Youth Activity Center, 650 NW 5th Ave., Florida City

Homestead’s Redland Company Joins Forces With City Engineering

A new construction partnership gives a long-running Homestead contractor more capacity for big South Florida sitework. The Redland Company and Miami-based City Engineering & Construction announced that they are joining forces while keeping their names, leadership, and field teams. Redland was founded in 1957 and remains led by the third generation of the Munz family. CEC opened in 2011 and brings experience with dense urban utility work. Together, the companies say they have more than 330 employees and a large fleet of owned equipment. The combination is meant to cover both open-site earthwork and complicated urban projects. The announcement does not promise new local positions, so job seekers should watch the companies’ own career pages instead of assuming hiring is underway. For Homestead, the bigger takeaway is that a homegrown firm is positioning itself for larger regional work without dropping its local identity.

Seminole Theatre Puts Its 2027 Season on Sale Monday

Monday is the first chance to lock in seats for Seminole Theatre’s 2027 Showcase Series. The downtown Homestead venue has announced 12 Main Stage productions running from January through July. The lineup ranges from the Shanghai Acrobats and a Mersey Beatles tribute to The Marvin Gaye Experience, Rare Earth, Disney Channel Sing-Along, On Your Feet!, and Newsies Jr. Tickets and season subscriptions go on sale November 2. Online ordering is the safest Monday option because the published box-office walk-up hours are Thursday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. You can also call 786-650-2073 with questions about subscriptions, accessibility, or individual shows. Popular tribute acts and family dates can move quickly, so scan the full calendar before the sale opens. A few minutes of planning Monday could save a later drive north for the same kind of night out.

The Fertilizer Ban Ends Sunday, but Rain Can Still Stop the Spreader

Sunday ends Miami-Dade’s rainy-season fertilizer ban, but it is not an automatic green light for the lawn. Nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer are prohibited through October 31 and may be used again starting November 1 only when conditions allow. Do not apply fertilizer to saturated soil or when heavy rain of at least two inches in 24 hours is forecast. Keep it at least 20 feet from water, storm drains, wetlands, and Biscayne Bay. Phosphorus remains off-limits unless a soil test shows a deficiency. Granular nitrogen must be at least 65% slow-release, and county rules limit how much can be applied at once and over a year. With Sunday looking wet, the practical move is to leave the bag closed and check the forecast again after the ground dries. South Dade’s farms have separate exemptions, but these rules matter for home lawns and most urban landscaping.
