Coastal Flood Warning Now Covers Monday and Tuesday

Low-lying coastal roads and parking spots need a backup plan today because the weekend watch has escalated to a Coastal Flood Warning. It runs from 2 a.m. Monday through 8 p.m. Tuesday for coastal Miami-Dade, with moderate flooding expected around high tides and major flood stage possible Monday and Tuesday. Monday's Homestead forecast calls for windy conditions and a couple of soaking showers, which can slow drainage beyond the shoreline. Move a vehicle from a spot that routinely takes water before the next high tide if you can do so safely. Never drive through a barricade or water when you cannot see the pavement. Shore, beach and boating plans deserve another look because a high rip-current risk also continues through late Tuesday night. Turkey Point's Monday high tides are near 11:39 a.m. and 11:46 p.m., useful planning markers rather than guarantees for your block. Conditions can vary street by street, so check the latest warning and your route before leaving.

A 66-Home Plan Near SW 278th Street Is Approved but Not Started

Neighbors near SW 278th Street and SW 154th Avenue have a 66-home project to keep on their radar, but there is no construction start to circle yet. The 2.67-acre site sits at the southeast corner of that intersection, west of Harriet Tubman Highway and the South Dade TransitWay. County land-use action approved higher residential density for the property in February 2025, and recorded commitments cap the plan at 66 units. The approval also addresses parks and neighborhood connectivity. A recent development-status report says work has not started. That means this is an early heads-up about a likely neighborhood change, not a move-in announcement or a traffic detour. Watch for permits, site fencing or a posted start date before adjusting your daily route.

Florida City Food Help Starts With One Phone Call

A South Dade household short on groceries can start with a call instead of guessing where to show up. The Florida City Community Outreach Resource Center lists emergency food assistance for people in need, with no fee. Staff ask callers to use the main number first so they can make a referral and explain pickup. Referred clients are directed to COFFO offices for pickup from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. Assistance may be available weekly, while emergency help depends on the household's need and current supply. Bring any information staff request during the call and do not make the trip before confirming. The listing was updated in May 2026, but same-day availability can change.

📞 Phone: 305-247-2068
🗓️ Date: Monday-Friday
⏰ Time: Referral line 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; referred pickup 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
📍Location: 1600 NW 6th Ct., Florida City/Homestead

First Watch Is Taking Pre-Opening VIP Signups in Homestead

Breakfast fans can get ahead of the line even though Homestead's First Watch has not posted an opening date. The chain's official location page now marks 3006 NE 8th Street as coming soon and has a pre-opening VIP signup. Listed perks include an opening-week pot of Project Sunrise coffee and a chance at a limited Friends & Family invitation. The first 100 opening-day guests are also promised a free tumbler, according to the page. Regular hours are listed as 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily once the restaurant opens. This is a signup alert, not an opening announcement, so do not plan a breakfast stop there yet. Joining the list is the clearest way to hear when the doors and preview reservations are actually ready.

NASCAR's Homestead Championship Weekend Now Has a Clock

Race weekend is close enough to plan around now, and the speedway has posted the exact rhythm. Friday, November 6 brings Cup practice from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. and the Truck Series championship at 7:30 p.m. Saturday adds Cup qualifying from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. before the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series championship at 5 p.m. Sunday driver introductions begin at 2:15 p.m., with the Cup championship scheduled for 3 p.m. The Sunday race is set for 267 laps, with stage breaks after laps 80 and 165. Locals heading out for dinner, work or errands should expect the heaviest traffic before and after those blocks, especially Sunday afternoon. Fans comparing add-ons should read the fine print because garage and pit passes do not include parking. Save the schedule now, then recheck it during race week for weather or broadcast changes.

📅 Date: Friday-Sunday, November 6-8, 2026
📍 Location: 1 Ralph Sanchez Speedway Blvd., Homestead
⏰ Hours: | Time: First on-track item 5:30 p.m. Friday; Cup race 3 p.m. Sunday

One Simple Trellis Tip to Give Your Vegetables More Sun

A small placement choice can keep one crop from stealing another crop's sun. UF/IFAS recommends putting a vegetable trellis at the north end of the garden so it is less likely to shade shorter plants. That setup works for cucumbers, beans, peas, tomatoes, squash, chayote and some melons. Training vines upward saves space and can make harvesting easier in a compact Homestead yard or container garden. Large fruit may need a cloth sling so its weight does not snap the vine. Water the soil instead of the leaves when possible, and choose disease-resistant varieties for our humid conditions. Before planting this week, stand where the bed gets afternoon sun and mark the north edge for the tallest support.
