Turn What You Know Into a Monthly Income Opportunity

What if 20 people paid you $25 a month to learn something you're already good at? That's $500 a month in potential revenue. Whether you teach baking, fitness, gardening, business skills, or another specialty, Skool lets you create a paid online community where members access your lessons, ask questions, and learn from you. You set your membership price, create your content, and build a business without renting a storefront. Platform fees and other expenses apply, and earnings aren't guaranteed.

A Wet, Windy Weekend Needs a Backup Plan

Weekend plans need a weather backup, especially anything outdoors or near the coast. Saturday's Homestead forecast calls for breezy conditions, showers and a thunderstorm, while Sunday may bring a heavier thunderstorm and stronger gusts. King tides are also beginning, so rainwater may drain more slowly in vulnerable coastal areas. Homestead, Florida City, Redland, Princeton, Naranja and Leisure City are inland enough that impacts will vary block by block; do not assume every neighborhood will flood. Move early activities up when you can, avoid driving through standing water and check on outdoor events before leaving.

Miami-Dade teachers will vote Wednesday on a tentative pay agreement

Miami-Dade County Public Schools and United Teachers of Dade reached a tentative agreement that would raise eligible 10-month teachers by about $2,000 for qualifying veteran teachers and $1,662 for teachers with fewer than 10 years of Florida public-school experience. Longer work schedules have different amounts. The deal also reports a $50,150 minimum base salary before referendum supplements and preservation of employee healthcare costs. It is not final until members ratify it.

What to do: Eligible bargaining-unit employees should review the tentative agreement and union voting instructions before Wednesday's in-person paper-ballot vote. Families should treat the figures as proposed until ratification is complete.

Date-sensitive details: Ratification is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct 28, 2026. The current school year's referendum funding is secure; the Nov 3, 2026 ballot question concerns the next four-year period beginning Jul 1, 2027.

Check the rules before buying permanent flood panels for a home

A recent Palmetto Bay report highlights a costly trap: permanent dry-floodproofing systems for residential living areas below the base flood elevation generally do not qualify under National Flood Insurance Program rules, and dry floodproofing is not permitted in coastal high-hazard Zones V and VE. Commercial and other nonresidential buildings can follow a different certified path. The practical lesson reaches well beyond Palmetto Bay: do not assume a marketed barrier system is permit-ready for your house.

What to do: Before purchasing permanent panels, confirm your flood zone and elevation with the local building department and ask your insurer how the system would affect coverage. Keep receipts for emergency materials. NFIP policies may cover up to $1,000 for qualifying loss-avoidance measures, plus up to $1,000 to move insured property to safety, but only when policy conditions are met.

Date-sensitive details: Temporary steps such as sandbags, pumps, plastic sheeting and lumber may qualify only when a flood or imminent danger exists and the policy's requirements are satisfied. Coverage is not automatic reimbursement.

Let the Garden Drain Before You Feed It

Backyard and patio gardeners can save plants and money by pausing fertilizer before this wet weekend. UF/IFAS says fertilizer will not speed recovery after heavy rain and may wash into nearby water; wait until the soil drains and plants are dry before pruning, too. Clear fallen leaves and debris, turn off automatic irrigation and make sure container drainage holes are open. Move light pots and hanging baskets into shelter before gusts arrive. After the rain, note any new puddling: a raised bed, redirected downspout or shallow rain garden may be a better long-term fix than repeatedly replacing waterlogged plants.
