Tuesday’s Vote Could Change Bus Routes, Late-Night Service and Fares

Your bus trip could cost more or end earlier next year, and Tuesday is the day commissioners discuss the choices. Miami-Dade’s 9:30 a.m. public meeting covers a proposal to eliminate 12 Metrobus routes, end service after 10 p.m. on 41 routes and consider possible fare increases or other funding options. The proposed cuts would begin in March 2027, but no fare change or route elimination is final before the commission acts.
For South Dade riders who depend on buses to reach the TransitWay, Metrorail, work, school or medical appointments, losing a late trip could mean paying for a rideshare, while even a small fare increase can add up for daily commuters. If you use one of the affected routes, check the list, follow Tuesday’s decision and save a screenshot of your current schedule. Riders can attend in person, watch Miami-Dade TV or contact their commissioner, but wait for an official implementation notice before changing your commute.

176 Supportive-Housing Units Proposed Near Homestead Air Reserve Base

A new housing proposal could bring 176 permanent supportive-housing units to a 9.8-acre site at 28205 SW 124th Court, just north of Homestead Air Reserve Base. Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust and Plad Homes filed a pre-application for the project, which calls for 88 two-story buildings with 136 two-bedroom units and 40 one-bedroom units.
The proposal is being described as a pilot aimed at shortening construction timelines and lowering development costs for housing serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness. It is still early in the process: a pre-application is used to get county staff feedback before a formal application is submitted, so the project is not yet a done deal.

Homestead Approves $32 Million for Capital Improvements

Homestead has approved its FY 2026-2027 budget with $32 million set aside for capital improvement projects, along with funding for five new police officer positions and upgraded public-safety radio communications. The city says its operating millage rate will remain unchanged from the previous fiscal year.
For residents, the bigger story is where that capital money goes next. Infrastructure and public-space investments can affect roads, neighborhoods and everyday quality of life, while keeping the operating millage rate unchanged limits one potential source of a city property-tax-rate increase. Watch for the individual projects and timelines as the new budget moves into implementation.
Boo in Bloom Brings Halloween Into the Redland Garden

Families can do Halloween in daylight among tropical fruit trees instead of squeezing every plan into the evening. Fruit & Spice Park’s Boo in Bloom runs October 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with costumes, a free seed pack while supplies last and a 2 p.m. costume contest.
The event gives younger children and families who prefer an earlier outing a local option in Redland. It also pairs the holiday with a visit to one of South Dade’s signature agricultural attractions.
Admission is listed at $15 for ages 12+, $8 for ages 6-11, free for children 5 and under, and free for members. Buy or confirm tickets before the holiday, arrive early if the seed pack matters, and use a costume that works for walking outdoors in warm weather.
📅 Date: Saturday, October 31, 2026
🕐 Time: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; costume contest at 2:00 p.m.

A Homestead Kitchen Turns Cuban Classics Vegan

A pan con lechón without pork is sitting on Homestead’s east side. Chef Always Hungry lists a $12 version made with seasoned jackfruit on pressed vegan Cuban bread, plus a $12 pan con croqueta, $4 walnut “beef” empanadas and $3 vegan “ham” croquetas.
Plant-based diners do not usually get many Cuban-comfort-food choices, and this local menu gives mixed-diet families a South Dade option without defaulting to a chain or a drive north.
Tuesday hours are listed from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Check the ordering page or call before driving, especially if you need pickup instructions, allergy information or a larger order; vegan does not automatically mean allergen-free.

Tuesday Movies Drop to $5 Downtown

A downtown movie night costs less on Tuesday: Hooky advertises $5 tickets for current releases. The deal gives couples, families and friend groups a simple indoor plan on a day when late showers may make outdoor plans unreliable.
Standard movie prices can turn a casual outing into a bigger bill. A fixed $5 admission makes the base cost easy to compare before food, drinks, premium formats or online fees are added.
Check the Homestead showtime and checkout price before leaving because special engagements, premium formats, taxes or fees may be excluded or extra.

A Temporary Remodel Role Lists $15 to $28 an Hour

A short-term retail project can put paid experience on a résumé. Walmart’s Homestead store lists a temporary Remodel Team Associate future opening at $15 to $28 an hour, with shifts that may begin between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m.
The work can fit someone who wants a defined project, early hours and experience with inventory, fixtures, stocking and customer service. The posted range is wide, so applicants should not assume the top rate.
Walmart labels this a future opening, not a currently staffed vacancy. An application can be held for up to 30 days if the role opens; ask about the actual start date, expected duration, schedule, starting rate, physical demands and benefit eligibility before accepting.
📅 Time: Possible shifts begin 4:00-7:00 a.m. or 7:00-9:00 a.m.
📍 Location: Walmart Supercenter #5671, 13600 SW 288th St., Homestead
