If your Tuesday takes you toward low-lying or coastal parts of South Dade, build in extra time. The National Weather Service has a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect for coastal Miami-Dade, including the Homestead area, through 2 p.m. Tuesday. The advisory calls for moderate coastal flooding, with water possible in lots, parks and roads and isolated road closures. King tides are helping drive the flooding risk, and Homestead’s forecast also carries a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 p.m.

For drivers, the practical move is simple: check your route before leaving, do not go around barricades and do not drive through water when you cannot judge the depth. If your home or business regularly takes on water during king tides, this is also the morning to move anything vulnerable before the advisory expires. The National Weather Service says to allow extra travel time and take steps to protect flood-prone property.

Homestead is taking another run at a utility-protection project at the Lucy Switching Station, located at 16191 SW 328th Street near SW 162nd Avenue. The city is re-bidding ITB #202635 for barrier walls at the site, and a non-mandatory pre-bid meeting is scheduled Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Procurement & Contract Services Department, 350 SE 6th Avenue. A site inspection is planned immediately after the meeting.

For local contractors, that makes this more than a city-project update. It is a current opportunity to see the site, hear the scope discussed and decide whether the job fits your company. Contractors attending the site inspection need either the required indemnity form or proof of workers’ compensation coverage, and the city is also offering a Microsoft Teams option for the pre-bid meeting. For everyone else, the project is one of those less-visible infrastructure investments aimed at protecting equipment that helps keep Homestead’s utility system running.

A Sept. 24 Miami-Dade zoning hearing ended with several South Dade proposals deferred instead of receiving final decisions. That included a Homestead Office LLC property near SW 288th Street and SW 157th Avenue, a Lennar-related application between SW 272nd and SW 278th streets near SW 157th–159th avenues, and a business-park land-use application near the Turnpike between SW 186th and SW 196th streets. For residents watching growth, traffic and development south of Kendall, “deferred” means these proposals are still alive but were not finally approved at that meeting, so future hearing dates are the next thing to watch.

A Jobs Connect federal job listing tied to Homestead shows 73 farmworker and laborer positions at $15 an hour, with groups expected to begin between Oct. 1, 2026 and Jan. 15, 2027. The listing says 42 hours per week and runs into May 2027. Because agricultural job listings can include specific eligibility, transportation or housing terms, applicants should read the full posting before applying and confirm details directly through the listed employment source.
