Today marks the last day of astronomical summer, with the equinox arriving tomorrow, but South Dade residents shouldn't expect much to actually change. Average highs in Homestead through October typically still sit in the mid-to-upper 80s, and hurricane season doesn't officially end until November 30. The only real seasonal marker most South Floridians notice this time of year is a slight drop in humidity and marginally shorter days, less "sweater weather" and more "the mosquitoes are finally calming down a little."

Hidden Gem: Homestead Then and Now Self Guided Tour
Downtown Homestead packs several architectural styles into an 11 block historic district of roughly 12 acres. The city’s free Then and Now guide connects early railroad history, old photographs and surviving buildings, so a familiar Krome Avenue walk turns into a compact local history lesson. Go after the storms ease, or save the route for a cooler morning and pair it with a downtown meal.
