Homestead's CRA Is Backing a New Food Truck and Live Music Venue Downtown
The City of Homestead's Community Redevelopment Agency board approved moving forward with negotiations on Homestead Live, a public-private partnership to activate a community entertainment venue built around food trucks and live music. The CRA committed up to $175,000 toward infrastructure improvements, while the private operator is putting in more than $100,000 of its own investment, with a revenue-sharing arrangement kicking in starting in year two. It's a lower-cost, faster way to bring nightlife and gathering space downtown compared to a ground-up construction project, and it fits the pattern of recent CRA-backed efforts to give downtown Homestead more reasons to stick around after dark.

MDC Homestead Cuts the Ribbon on “The Future of Student Experience”
There’s something new on the Miami Dade College Homestead Campus. The City of Homestead joined MDC over the weekend for the ribbon cutting of Building A: The Future of Student Experience, marking another investment in the rapidly growing downtown campus. MDC’s current campus information identifies Building A as home to Student Life functions, and the opening adds to a campus that has been steadily expanding its facilities and programs in downtown Homestead.
The timing is fitting. MDC Homestead begins a packed Changemaker Week today with programs centered on wellness, artificial intelligence, civic engagement and community involvement.
South Dade Businesses Are Talking About How to Grow the Local Economy
Small-business owners, nonprofits and local organizations recently gathered at the South Dade YMCA for the Miami-Dade Small Business & Local Economy Summit. The event focused on connecting entrepreneurs with organizations, resources and potential partners while strengthening relationships among the businesses already serving South Dade.
That matters because South Dade’s growth isn’t just showing up in new rooftops. More businesses, service providers and entrepreneurs are trying to capture the spending and opportunities created by a rapidly expanding population.
A 2.7-Million-Square-Foot Project Just Changed the Development Conversation in Miami-Dade

Miami-Dade commissioners have approved plans allowing Kelly Tractor Co. to build a massive new headquarters campus on more than 240 acres west of NW 137th Avenue near the Dolphin Expressway. The project could total about 2.7 million square feet and potentially grow the company’s Miami-Dade workforce substantially.
Why should South Dade readers care about a project farther north? Because much of the controversy centers on the Urban Development Boundary, the planning line intended to protect agricultural and environmentally sensitive land from urban development. The approval is the first project of its kind allowed beyond the UDB since 2013 and could influence future development fights involving farmland and open land elsewhere in Miami-Dade. Supporters point to jobs and economic growth, while opponents warn about wetlands and the precedent created by allowing major development outside the boundary..
