The CRA wants to turn empty downtown storefronts into a dining and entertainment district
Homestead's Community Redevelopment Agency is looking for partners to transform a stretch of vacant storefronts along North Krome Avenue into Krome Marketplace, a new dining and entertainment destination spanning three buildings and more than 170 feet of street frontage. The CRA is specifically seeking a signature restaurant, bar, and entertainment venue to anchor the project, right in the heart of downtown. It's part of a broader wave of downtown redevelopment already underway, including the Triangle Project's mixed-use housing near the Krome Avenue MetroEXPRESS station and the sale of the old City Hall site to Flanigan's. If it comes together, it would give downtown Homestead a genuine nightlife anchor it hasn't really had before.

South Dade Shuts Out Homestead 48–0
The South Dade Buccaneers picked up their first win of the season in convincing fashion, defeating the Homestead Broncos 48–0 in their local matchup Thursday night. South Dade improved to 1–2, while Homestead fell to 0–3. The Broncos travel to Southwest next Thursday, while South Dade hosts Columbus on September 18.
A 582-Home Development Just Got the Green Light in Redland
A major new development is moving forward in Redland. Redland Reserve, a roughly 90-acre mixed-use project south of SW 272nd Street between Krome Avenue and SW 172nd Avenue, was reported as approved September 10. Plans call for 582 homes, including affordable housing, with development expected to unfold over several years. For an area known for agriculture and open land, another project of this size adds to the bigger conversation about just how quickly South Dade is changing.

328 Affordable Apartments Planned for Naranja
A major housing redevelopment is moving forward along South Dixie Highway in Naranja. Housing Trust Group is advancing Lakeview at Naranja, a two-phase development that would replace an existing retail center at 27501 and 27525 S. Dixie Highway with 328 affordable apartments. Plans call for an eight-story development, 467 parking spaces and more than 11,000 square feet of commercial space. Apartments would be reserved for households earning between 30% and 80% of the area's median income. The roughly $126.4 million project also includes $3.3 million in infrastructure improvements, including better pedestrian and lakefront access.
