Storms Could Form Closer to Home This Year, New Forecast Warns

AccuWeather has revised its 2026 Atlantic hurricane season forecast, now projecting 8 to 14 named storms, 4 to 7 hurricanes, and 2 to 4 major hurricanes for the remainder of the season. Forecasters note the Atlantic has been unusually quiet so far, but warn that exceptionally warm ocean waters could still fuel storms that form closer to the U.S. coast with less lead time to prepare. With the season running through November 30 and South Dade sitting well within the historical strike zone, now's a good time to double-check your household's hurricane kit and plan rather than wait for a storm to actually form.

Publix Is Changing The Express Lane

That “10 items or fewer” sign at Publix is becoming a thing of the past.

After testing the change at stores in Miami, Publix is removing the traditional 10-item limit from its express checkout lanes and rolling the new approach out companywide. The goal? Keep checkout lines moving more efficiently.

So yes, that person standing in the express lane with 17 items may officially be allowed now. 😅

South Dade, what do you think? Should Publix keep the 10-item rule, or are you fine with letting the line move however it moves?

Skip the DMV Line, This Mobile Office Is Coming to Homestead

The TConnect mobile office, a traveling state services unit, periodically visits Homestead to bring driver's license, ID, and other Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles services closer to residents who'd otherwise have to travel further for an in-person appointment. It's a small thing, but it saves a real trip for anyone renewing a license or handling paperwork who doesn't want to drive up to a full-service DMV branch. Keep an eye on the city's calendar for the next scheduled visit.

TODAY IS NATIONAL CUBAN SANDWICH DAY

Now this is a holiday South Florida can get behind.

Today is National Cuban Sandwich Day, celebrating that glorious combination of Cuban bread, roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard pressed until crispy.

But around here, we’re less interested in the official recipe and more interested in where locals actually go for one.

👇 WHO MAKES THE BEST CUBAN SANDWICH IN SOUTH DADE?

Homestead? Florida City? Redland? Cutler Bay? Tell us the spot we need to try.
