Simmons Bar Keeps Downtown's Nights Going

When the curtain comes down at the Seminole Theatre, a night in Downtown Homestead doesn't necessarily have to end.

Just a short walk away at 35 N. Flagler Ave., Simmons Bar offers the kind of old-school neighborhood bar experience that's becoming harder to find. Think pool tables, inexpensive drinks, live local bands and karaoke instead of velvet ropes and a long drive north.

The longtime Homestead watering hole has also gotten some attention recently. The Seminole Theatre described Simmons as newly renovated when it included the bar as a stop on its downtown bar crawl earlier this year.

Live music remains part of the draw. South Groove, a South Florida cover band, currently has a Saturday, Aug. 29 performance from 8 PM to midnight scheduled at Simmons. The band describes the venue as a longtime Homestead bar with pool tables, drink specials and an outdoor covered patio.

That makes Simmons part of a bigger story happening downtown. Between the Seminole Theatre, restaurants, bars and newer entertainment options, residents can increasingly put together an entire night out without leaving Homestead.

So if you're already downtown for dinner or a show and aren't ready to head home, Simmons is one more local option to know.
