What Today (Friday, Aug. 14) Is All About

Homestead's CRA Programs Named Among Those at Risk if Amendment 3 Passes

A new report names Homestead among the cities that could see CRA funding shrink if Florida’s Amendment 3 passes in November. The city’s CRA uses property tax growth to support projects like downtown storefront grants and redevelopment efforts. Supporters say the measure would provide significant property tax relief to homeowners, while opponents warn the lost revenue could mean cuts to services or shift more costs to renters and businesses. The amendment would need 60% voter approval to pass.

Explore Homestead With the Heritage Puzzle Trail

Think you know Homestead? The Homestead Heritage Puzzle Trail gives locals and visitors a different way to explore the city with a self-guided scavenger hunt that starts at Losner Park.

Instead of following a tour guide, participants receive digital instructions by email and set off at their own pace. Along the way, you'll follow clues, solve puzzles, complete photo and video challenges, and search for local landmarks and hidden gems. Depending on the route, you'll travel between stops on foot or by car.

There's no scheduled group meetup or in-person guide, so you can make the experience your own. Go with the family, turn it into a date, bring a group of friends or coworkers, or tackle the challenge solo. A remote host is also available by message if you get stuck.

The experience includes the scavenger hunt, digital clues, challenges, and remote support. Food, transportation, parking, and any attraction admission fees aren't included, so keep that in mind when planning your adventure.

📅 Date: Multiple dates available
📍 Starting Location: Losner Park, Homestead
🧩 Experience: Self-guided scavenger hunt
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Good for: Families, couples, friends, coworkers and solo explorers
