Wildfire Burning West of Homestead Could Bring Smoke to South Dade
Firefighters continue battling the Bluegill Fire burning in western Miami-Dade after the wildfire scorched roughly 750 acres and remained uncontained. While no homes are currently threatened, changing winds could bring smoke and reduced visibility to parts of South Dade. If you're traveling toward Krome Avenue, U.S. 41 or the Everglades this week, check road conditions before heading out and use extra caution in smoky areas.

Free School Supplies Are Coming to Downtown Homestead
Families can save on back-to-school costs by picking up free backpacks and supplies at The Healing Sanctuary’s community resource fair. Children’s activities, refreshments, giveaways and family services will also be available. Supplies are first come, first served, so arrive near opening time for the best selection, and remember that Miami-Dade public schools begin August 13.

South Dade Voters Can Cast Ballots Early, Close to Home
South Dade voters can avoid Election Day lines by casting their primary ballots early at two nearby locations. Check your sample ballot before leaving, bring an accepted photo ID and confirm the day’s hours because the schedule changes throughout the voting period.

Dengue Case & Mosquito Advisory in Miami-Dade
The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County issued a mosquito-borne illness alert following a recently confirmed, locally acquired case of dengue fever. County Mosquito Control crews are intensifying field inspections and targeted spray treatments across residential and agricultural zones in South Dade. Residents are strongly urged to drain any standing water around yards and wear EPA-registered insect repellent during dawn and dusk to prevent mosquito bites.
