FREE Everglades BioBlitz Turns National Public Lands Day Into a Local Field Trip
Homestead has one of the easiest National Public Lands Day opportunities in South Florida today. Everglades National Park is hosting a free BioBlitz that starts at 9 a.m. at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center. Rangers will introduce participants to iNaturalist, then lead a wet walk into a cypress dome to identify plants and animals. The park says the program is limited to 25 participants and is intended for ages 12 and up.
This is not a boardwalk stroll, so dress for wet conditions, bring water, wear shoes you do not mind getting soaked and download the iNaturalist app before arriving. National Public Lands Day is also a fee-free day at participating federal public lands, making today a good excuse to choose the Everglades over another indoor Saturday.

Homestead's Typical Rental Ask Is Now $2,500
A fresh look at Homestead rental listings puts the median asking rent at $2,500 a month as of September 25. The market snapshot counted 753 active homes and condos for lease, with half of the asking rents falling between $1,990 and $3,000. The median listing had been on the market 42 days.
That does not mean every renter should expect to pay exactly $2,500. These are asking rents, not signed lease prices, and HOA rules, pets, deposits and move-in requirements can change the real monthly cost. But it gives renters a useful benchmark before touring: if a listing is well above $2,500, ask what justifies the premium. If it is below, check condition, location, utilities and association requirements before assuming it is a bargain.

Harvest Moon Night Gives Redland a $10 Saturday Plan
Fruit & Spice Park is turning Saturday night into a low-cost Redland outing with its Harvest Moon stargazing program. The park's own listing says the evening begins at 6:30 p.m. and invites visitors to settle in under the moon and stars around a bonfire. Admission is listed at $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6 to 11 and free for children 5 and under and park members.
Bring a blanket or lawn chair, bug spray and a small cooler if needed. A Greater Miami tourism listing shows a 7:30 p.m. start, so confirm the final time with the park before heading out.

If you want one stop that can cover produce, lunch and wandering around, Redland Market Village is still one of South Dade's biggest weekend options. The family-owned market says it has operated since 1987 on more than 27 acres and includes a farmers market, shops, live entertainment and more than 22 international food trucks.
The practical move is to go hungry and treat it like a choose-your-own lunch. Check produce first, walk the vendor rows and save the food-truck decision for last.
